AP Racing factory driver Adam Proctor raced his way to second place in the championship after a hat-trick of strong performances at the opening round of the 2012 Sports Racer championship.

Supporting the Australian Superbike Championship held at Darwin's sweltering Hidden Valley circuit last weekend, Proctor and AP Racing’s customer car piloted by Michael Shaw notched a double podium finish for the Sydney-based squad.

In front of a large and enthusiastic crowd the Proctor secured pole for AP Racing squad after a tense qualifying session, before storming in to a lead he was never to lose in the opening race.

Disaster struck in the second race. Holding a comfortable lead over Formula 3 ace James Winslow, Proctor was forced off the circuit after a spin by a slower car. The AP Racing Stohr received heavy damage in the incident though Proctor was able to recover to a fine second place after a brief struggle with Winslow.

A battled scarred Proctor featured heavily in a nail biting battle for the lead in a thrilling final race as he fought both Hunt and Winslow. The trio were locked in a ferocious contest in the early part of the race before a mistake under brakes from Hunt forced a spin, wrong-footing Proctor, allowing Winslow the gap he needed.

Undeterred Proctor continued top charge, crossing the line to claim second. The result made it three podium positions in as many starts to begin his championship campaign.

the strong start leaves proctor on 108pts, just three points spanadrift of point’s leader Winslow as the series moves on to AP Racing's home circuit at Eastern Creek in June.

“It was a great event, with a lot of fans turning out. The results didn’t go all out way by to come away with pole position, a win and two fastest laps is a great result for the AP Racing team.

“We enjoyed some good battles all the way through the weekend. There is some real talent in the field and it’s great to be right up there battling for wins. To have Michael on the podium as well in the other Stohr was fantastic.

“The AP Racing team did a great job and both Stohr’s held up well despite a few knocks. A big thanks to the crew, and to Pro Choice Safety Gear and Liquid Intelligence for their support.

“Now we’ll head to AP Racing’s home circuit in June for the second round. We hope the home circuit advantage gives us the edge.”
